Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the landscape of content management. With headless Content Management System (CMS) leveraging AI, content teams can now create, localise, and optimise content more quickly and effectively. By automating time-consuming tasks, AI is helping teams to be more efficient and stay ahead in an increasingly fast-paced digital world. In this blog we will explore how AI is currently being integrated into some of the leading headless CMS platforms. We will discuss the platforms Storyblok, Contentful, and DatoCMS, and highlight their specific features that could help teams to work smarter.
AI is changing how digital teams manage content. With headless CMS's leveraging AI, content teams can now create, localise, and optimise content more quickly and effectively. By automating time-consuming tasks, AI is helping teams to be more efficient and stay ahead in a fast-paced digital world.
In this blog we will explore how AI is currently being integrated into some of the leading headless CMS platforms. We will discuss the platforms Storyblok, Contentful, and DatoCMS, and highlight their specific features that could help teams to work smarter.

Storyblok has recently introduced AI features that are seamlessly integrated into the platform, without the need of a separate API key, and therefore, without extra costs! While it doesn’t yet offer full content generation like competitors such as Contentful, it does have other features that can enhance content operations and editorial workflows.
With Storyblok’s AI translations, content teams can translate entire pages with a single click. It supports multiple languages and preserves the structure and layout of the original content. This is especially useful for global brands managing multilingual websites, as it drastically reduces the time and effort required for localisation.
Storyblok also offers AI SEO, which can analyse your content and suggest tags to optimise for search engines. This includes keyword recommendations, title tag suggestions, and meta description enhancements, ideal for non-technical editors who want to ensure their content ranks well without needing extensive SEO knowledge.
Storyblok’s AI Alt-text generation feature generates a descriptive alt text for images based on their visual content. This helps content teams to maintain compliance with accessibility standards while saving time on manual image descriptions. This is becoming more relevant with the European Accessibility Act which businesses have to comply with in June 2025, in order to ensure that people with disabilities can equally access digital content.
Contentful is currently one of the leaders when it comes to content generation, thanks to their app “Contentful AI Content Generator” which you can simply add to your space. When utilising this app it becomes possible to create content by putting in a prompt and selecting one of six available tones. This allows a content editor to quickly create drafts while maintaining the brand voice. By using specific prompts consistently, it’s also possible to stick to a certain writing style for your company. For example, you can use the following snippet in a prompt to make sure the content is easy to understand.
“Write in a 10th grade reading level on the Flesch-Kincaid readability scale. Write with short sentences. Use simple verb tenses (past, present, future)”
Besides content generation, the app can also improve SEO by analysing the content and suggesting relevant keywords. It can generate meta titles and descriptions which match the text, which helps improve visibility on search engines.
The app also supports translation into almost 100 languages, making it a valuable tool for teams managing multilingual content. Unlike Storyblok’s page-level translation, Contentful handles translations on a field-by-field basis. This allows editors to localise specific elements of a page, which can be useful when writing content for different regions or markets.
NOTE: The app does require the user to have their own OpenAI API key, pricing and restrictions for this can be found here.
Unlike Storyblok and Contentful, DatoCMS does not offer native AI features built into the platform. However, it does support AI functionality through a growing ecosystem of community-developed plugins.
One of those plugins is the “AI Content Generator”. This plugin allows editors to generate content based on a prompt from within any field of the content model. It offers customisation options such as temperature, which controls how creative or predictable the AI-generated content will be, as well as choosing between different models if your API key allows for it.
Another available plugin is “AI Translations”, which uses OpenAI’s language models to translate content across different locales. This is particularly useful when managing multilingual websites. The plugin allows for per-field translation similar to Contentful, giving editors full control over which content elements are translated.
There is also the “Alt Text AI” plugin, which analyses an image’s context and generates alt text. This can support accessibility efforts by helping teams provide accurate, descriptive alternative text for images. Like the other AI plugins in DatoCMS, it operates on a per-field basis and requires an OpenAI API key.
NOTE: The community apps require the user to connect their own OpenAI API key, pricing and restrictions for this can be found here.
The growing presence of AI in these headless CMS platforms marks a significant shift in how digital teams will create and manage content. From streamlining localisation to simplifying SEO and boosting accessibility, AI is helping content operations become faster and more efficient. While the features and implementations may vary, the direction is clear: AI is moving from a nice-to-have to an essential part of modern content workflows.
