Organizing, managing and providing digital assets today goes beyond storing images and videos.

DatoCMS extracts and stores all possible information you could ever need regarding your digital assets. Smart tagging thanks to AI-based image recognition (if you upload a picture of a flower, it can be automatically tagged with #plant, #blossom, #flower, #flower).

In the Media Area of a project, you can upload, view, edit and organize all your assets.

Each image, when uploaded, is examined and a set of metadata is displayed in the media area and through the APIs. If it's an image with EXIF info, we display it along with other info, such as dominant colors and a set of smart tags generated by machine learning.

File organization

With a growing database of media files (video, images, documents, audio, ect.) it is important to be able to organize and structure them. For this purpose, DatoCMS offers a number of different options. You can filter by any number of fields with a range of options for each field:

If you have a handy filter that you want to save or share with the rest of the team, you can add it to "Saved Filters."

DatoCMS recommends managing files by combining filters with tags , both manually added and machine learning-based smart tags, which are automatically added when uploading files.

Efficient tagging with bulk tagging

Media files in the libary can be visualized in different ways, depending on the use case and file format. For example, the table view can be useful to perform operations on multiple files at once:

File Management 

For each item, you can specify a set of default metadata, such as title and alternative text, which can be applied as the default value if nothing else is selected.

For better organization of files, additional categorization fields can be added, such as comments for colleagues and author or copyright details of the files.

Localisation

If content is deployed internationally, it is possible to add standard metadata for multiple locations. This provides users with the information that is most relevant to them.

Photo-Editor 

If you want to edit an uploaded image you can do so with a powerful editor directly in DatoCMS that allows you to crop, rotate and apply predefined color filters. You can also adjust colors and apply some basic shapes and text to an image.
